The very ethos behind The Falls was the creation of low impact, fully sustainable, carbon neutral, uncompromisingly luxury accommodation. And we have done everything in our powers to achieve this.

Our sustainability story began when we were admiring the sheer power of water cascading down the waterfalls one winter. We have since installed a Power Spout water turbine which will produce electricity for the tents over the winter months. Hydropower is the most advanced and mature renewable energy technology available, boasts low greenhouse gas emissions, low operating costs, and a high ramp rate (quick response to electricity demand). The turbine uses less than 1/6 of the available flow (which then flows back into the creek) and is thought to be the first of its kind in the private tourism sector in SA. 

The solar panels are used primarily over summer as the creek stops flowing. Utilising solar energy and batteries for energy storage, we are remaining entirely off-grid year round.

The water for the tents is rainwater, and the tanks have been installed uphill from the tents, meaning they are gravity fed (preventing the need for a pump).  The water pressure is immense!

Our Charnwood Aire 3 wood heater boasts a 74% efficiency rate, far cleaner burning (reduced carbon emissions) than other brands.

We have thought of everything we can to minimise our impact on the environment. We ask the same of our guests - we are so, so privileged to walk on this land and amongst the incredible and diverse flora and fauna, and to recognise that is the very least we can do.
